What does a portrait say about a person? In the past, portraits were painted to denote one’s status in society, indicated by the clothing they wore and the opulence surrounding them. Unless it is a formal portrait of an important person, contemporary artists tend towards telling more of a story about their subjects. In each of my portraits, I try to capture the qualities that make that individual unique. The pose, the facial expression, the background, the props or clothing and the attitude all contribute to creating an image that truly says something personal about that person.
